"Words, Words, Words!"

One of God’s greatest gifts to us is our speech. Imagine how different life would be for all of us if we could not speak. It would be so much harder to work together, live together, and play together -- let alone to express our love for each other. Words sure come in handy! And they are powerful.

Words can build up or they can tear down. Did anyone ever say to you, "Gee, you sure looked tired today?" How did that make you feel? It probably made you feel tired. Words can sometimes do that.

How about when someone says, "You look so nice today!" Doesn’t that make you feel great!  Words can tear down or build up.

The Bible says, "Encourage one another daily" (Hebrews 3:13). Let’s use our words each day to do just that!

Think for a moment about how you can encourage someone with your words.

Is there someone you could give a compliment to?
Is there someone you could say, "I love you" to?
Is there someone you could thank for helping you?
Give it a try . . . each day. "Encourage one another daily."

 Let’s pray:
God, You have given us a wonderful gift by giving us speech. Help us to use this gift wisely in building others up each day by the words that we say. In Your Name. Amen.
