Stories for God’s Children

Introduction:

When Moses had led the Israelites to the edge of the Promised Land he then preached four sermons to prepare them for what was ahead. This sermon series is contained in the Book of Deuteronomy. One of Moses’ greatest concerns was making sure that the children were taught the faith.

Listen to his words:

"Take care and watch yourselves closely, so as neither to forget the things that your eyes have seen nor to let them slip from your mind all the days of your life; make them known to your children and your children’s children."  Deuteronomy 4:9

"Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might. Keep these words that I am commanding you today in your heart. Recite them to your children, and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise." Deuteronomy 6:6-8

Many parents today long to share their faith with their children, but some lack the confidence to do so. This devotional is meant to be a resource, a discussion starter, to help share the most important truths in life. I envision this collection to be used as bedtime stories or for family devotions, perhaps after dinner.

I began writing down these children’s messages as a way to deal with my own sense of emptiness over not having a child to share the faith with. Writing them down somehow helped to comfort and sustain the nurturing parent within me.  Maybe it helped keep hope alive within me, that one day I might possibly get to share these stories with my son or daughter. How grateful I am that as I share these with you Beth and I are now the proud and grateful parents of two beautiful sons, Benjamin and Samuel.

May this collection help your children and ours catch the faith!
