A synagogue was a house of worship in Jesus’ day, for His people, the Jews. It was what we call today, a church, a place for praying and singing to God, a place to study the scriptures, and a place to be with other believers. It’s a very important place. And Jesus made it a habit of going there. "As was His custom," His habit.
Going to church each Sunday is an important habit for Christians. It helps us feel closer to God, and closer to other Christians. Imagine being part of a sports team -- maybe a soccer team or a basketball team -- and only going to half of the games and half of the practices. Would you feel as much a part of the team?
Going to church helps us feel a part of God’s team. For church is a team meeting . . . . with our fellow teammates and with our Head Coach . . . Jesus!
Let’s pray:
Lord Jesus, thank You for our church, for
our pastor, our choir, our Sunday School teachers, and our fellow church
members. Thank You for the chance to meet with them and You each week.
And thank You for the privilege of being on your team. In Your name. Amen.
