"The Bible: Our Family Stories"

Does your family have favorite stories that you tell? I’ll bet you do! Most families have their own set of unique, special stories -- funny things that have happened around the house or on vacation, embarrassing moments, silly, fun, moments, or special things done for each other. We bring out our family stories from time to time -- traveling in the car, taking a walk together, and around the dinner table, especially at holidays. Family stories can be very entertaining!

What are some of the stories of your family?

Family stories help us feel connected. They remind us of how close we are to each other. They give us a sense of identity and belonging. We celebrate the fact that we belong to each other when we tell our family stories.

The Bible is a book of family stories -- stories about God’s family, which is our family. We each belong to at least two families. We have our family at home and we have our family of faith. Our "Family of Faith" includes our church family and it includes our Biblical Family -- Adam & Eve, Abraham & Sarah, Moses, Jesus, Mary & Martha, Peter and Paul. These are our sisters and brothers in the faith. And their stories are our stories.

We read the Bible to learn more about our family and what it means to live as a son or daughter of God. The Bible teaches us that. Learning our family stories give us a sense of identity and belonging. We belong to God and to a great Family of Faith!

Let’s pray and give thanks that God has given us the Bible:
Lord, you have given us many gifts. Today we thank you for the Bible, which teaches us about Your incredible love and about our Family of Faith. Thank You, Heavenly Father, that we’re a part of Your Family. Help us to learn our "family stories" from the Bible that we may live and love as Your children. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
