Families especially eat meals together on special occasions. What do Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, birthday celebrations, and wedding receptions all have in common? That’s right. They all involve a big, fancy meal! The meal helps the family feel connected to each other as they gather around the table.
In church we have a family meal. It’s called the Lord’s Supper. Your church may call it "Holy Communion" or the "Eucharist." It’s a very special meal, even though it consists of merely a small piece of bread and a cup of juice or wine. But it’s special because the meal came from Jesus. He shared it first with His disciples, and He told them to celebrate this meal often and think of Him.
Whenever we share this meal in church we’re
reminded that we are a part of a great, great family . . . Jesus’ family
. . . the family of God. The cup and the loaf of bread remind us that Jesus
gave His all, His
very life, for His family.
Let’s pray:
Heavenly Father, thank You that we’re part
of Your family. And thank You for the meal that You gave us to remind us
how much You love Your family. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
