"The Difference of One"
As an old man walked out on the beach at dawn,
he noticed a young man ahead of him picking up starfish and flinging them
into the sea. Finally catching up with the youth, he asked him why he was
doing this. The answer was that the stranded starfish would die if left
to the morning sun. "But the beach goes on for miles and there are millions
of starfish," countered the old man. "How can your effort make a difference?"
The young man looked at the starfish in his hand and then threw it to safety
in the waves. "It makes a difference to this one," he said.
Each day God brings people into our lives
who need our love. People at school. People in our neighborhood. People
in our own home. Our love can make a difference! Our love and kindness
and encouragement is just what they need! We can make a difference -- one
person at a time!
Let’s pray:
God, each day You give us the chance to
love. Help us to make the most of these opportunities. For kinds words
and loving deeds make a difference. In Christ’s Name. Amen.
