"Close in Spirit"

"Don’t touch anything, and don’t put anything in your pockets." Those were a mother’s instructions to her son as they went into the store. It all made sense to the boy until the moment of temptation came.

The boy wandered into the candy aisle while his mother had to go to the back of the store to check on a special order. That’s when the temptation struck. She said when she was finished she would buy him one piece of candy. But the boy realized that if he put one or two candy bars in his pockets then he’d really have a lot of candy!

But those words kept coming back to him, "Don’t touch anything and don’t put anything in your pockets." It was as if his mother was standing right next to him! And yet she was in the back of the store. You might say that she was there in spirit.

When Christians talk about God being with us through the Holy Spirit we’re talking about a very similar thing. Remember we said that God is not a physical being. God is a spiritual, invisible being. So the Spirit is with us always, reminding us of what Jesus has taught us. In fact, Jesus once said, "I will send you the Holy Spirit, and he shall bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you" (John 14:26)

So, let’s thank God that the Holy Spirit is with us always to love and to guide us!

 Let’s pray:
Thank you, Holy Spirit, that we are never alone, and that in times of temptation You are there to guide us and show us a way out. Thank you that You help us remember what Jesus has taught us. In His Name. Amen.
