We are delighted to welcome Tim Janis and members of his instrumental ensemble to our worship service today.  Tim is a well-known composer and conductor and is a member of First Parish Church.

You are invited to the Portsmouth High School Madrigal Singers “bon voyage” concert today at 3:00 p.m. in our sanctuary.  The singers will be travelling to Japan on a 10-day cultural and performance tour.  Gwen Baker is the chamber ensemble’s director and Wendell Purrington is the accompanist.  Concert is free and open to the public.

Volunteer Help Needed: Please join the Celebrate America team!!  Looking for someone to help call high schools to invite them to be a part of Celebrate America 2011.  Please e-mail Tim Janis at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , if you are interested.

Summer Fun! Next Sunday, August 1.  Join friends and family for a picnic lunch immediately following church on the back lawn.  Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided.  Please bring a salad, snack, or dessert to share.  Relax in the shade, share a meal, games for kids of all ages  too.   RSVP to the church office.  Questions call Heidi Oliver 363-7340

Stewardship Workshop Wednesday, August 4, 7:00 p.m.  Attention all church leaders who deal with church funds/finances (eg, assessors, deacons, members of the stewardship committee, church officers, committee chairs, and any other interested parties!)  Rev. Marlayna's husband, Rev. Paul Nickerson, will be leading a workshop on stewardship which will help people learn principles of giving, re-think motives for giving, re-think the stewardship letter, and help people grow in their giving to the church.  If you haven't already done so, please let Rev. Marlayna ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) know if you are interested in attending, so we know how many materials to produce.

Portland Sea Dogs!! We’re going to the Sea Dogs!  Sunday, August 22 is the date for a 1:00 p.m. game.  Tickets are $8.00 and are in the “Green Monster” section (lots of room to run around!)  Stop by the church office or call to reserve your tickets!

Mission Trip T-Shirts:  If anyone has a t-shirt from a previous Sr. High Youth Mission Trip, I would like to have one.  I would prefer medium size, but will take any size with thanks.  I would like to collect one from each mission trip to become a church display.  You may bring them to church or call me and I will pick them up.  Again, many thanks.  Blue Mission Trip T-Shirts are on sale this morning at coffee hour.  It only takes a minute to support our youth and their mission trip.  s/Dick Lalley, 363-4711.

Thank you for worshiping with us today.  All visitors are invited to join us after church for refreshments and fellowship.  Summer is here, so weather permitting coffee hour is outdoors.  During the summer months, you’ll find our Welcome Table just inside Fellowship Hall in the entryway, with helpful information about our church.  We also encourage you to sign a pew card and place it in the offering plate and speak with our pastors.  Welcome!!

As the old hymn says, "Jesus calls us, o'er the tumult of our life's wild, restless sea," but he doesn't need a cell phone to do it.  Please turn your ringers off before worship.

Greeting you this morning are  Jim and Kathy Carter.

Coffee hour is hosted by Shirley and Bob Harris.
